We were established in 2008 to bring together parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities and/or special educational needs from across Sheffield to support each other, share information and influence policy. Our main aim is to make sure the needs of our children are met.
We are an independent, parent-led organisation. Our fifteen trustees have links with parent support groups across the city. They are supported by two part-time staff.
We operate a two-tiered membership. Full membership is open to all parents and carers of children and young people (0-25) with disabilities and/or special educational needs who live in Sheffield or access services in Sheffield. Professionals and practitioners who work with disabled youngsters can join as associate members. Become a member
We are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Our main funders are the Department of Education and Sheffield City Council.
We are part of a national network of over 150 parent carer forums in England. All of these forums work with their local authorities, education settings, health providers and other partners with the aim of ensuring that the services they plan and deliver meet the needs of disabled children and their families. Together, these local forums reach over 77,000 parent carers.
