Panto treat for disabled youngsters

5th December 2011

  • THEY had a lovely time – oh yes they did!

Disabled youngsters and their families enjoyed a special performance of “Dick Whittington” at Ponds Forge on Sunday 4th December 2011. The play was staged by the University of Sheffield Light Entertainment Society (USLES) for members of the Sheffield Parent Carer Forum.

Excited children cheered, booed and hissed as they watched Dick and his cat battle to save London from the evil King Rat. With plenty of songs and slapstick, sign language interpretation and no loud bangs, the show was a hit with children who can find regular performances difficult to access.

Forum co-chair Jayne Woodward said: “We have never organised a panto before and it was a real treat. The youngsters definitely enjoyed it and everyone really got into the festive spirit! We’d love to do it again next year.”
