Autism in Schools

Autism in Schools

  • Autism in Schools is a national project that aims to improve support for autistic children and young people in mainstream schools. It focuses on improving the school environment, fostering good relationships between staff, parents and students, signposting families to sources of support, and providing better access to early intervention. The project launched in Sheffield in October 2021 and will run until March 2025.

A total of 14 mainstream secondary schools in Sheffield are currently taking part (see list below). From April 2024, we will be including more schools, including some primary schools, secondary schools and post-16 providers.

Our project workers Sharon, Kathleen and Anna run monthly parent groups in the participating schools. Using feedback from parents, they work with key staff to make improvements across the school for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

The groups welcome parents of children with any kind of additional needs, not just autism; this includes children without a formal diagnosis. So please come along – and if you need more information, just get in touch with our project workers!
