    • We are an independent group of parents and carers of children and young people (0-25) with special educational needs and disabilities. Our main aim is to ensure the needs of our children are met. We bring together parent carers from across Sheffield to provide mutual support, exchange information, and influence policy and practice. We have over 1,900 members.

    • Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have published an action plan that sets out how they will address a range of issues affecting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

    • Sheffield has received government approval to create a new special free school. This is in addition to another new special school, sponsored by Nexus Multi Academy Trust, which is already in development and due to open in 2020 on the site of the former Norfolk Park special school.

    • We are delighted that we have received almost £10,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund. This money will be used to hold a series of events for parent carers, which will include information workshops and taster sessions for stress-busting activities like yoga, meditation, art and pottery. We are currently putting together a programme, and you’ll soon be able to book onto these sessions via our website.

  • Taster session: Pottery (evening)

    • Sorry this session is now fully booked. Please join the waiting list to be notified if spaces become available. We may also arrange an additional session if there is enough interest.

      This is part of a series of taster sessions for stress-busting activities for parent carers, funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

      Come along and play with clay! This is a session for complete beginners, and places are limited to six participants. You’ll be able to have a go at handbuilding, sculpting and wheel throwing in a relaxed and friendly environment. An experienced tutor will show you some basic techniques and provide help and guidance as and when needed. You’ll be able to get your piece(s) fired in a kiln. Booking essential.

      Please note: The pottery studio does not have disabled access.

  • Focus group: Post-16 provision

    • Do you have a young person aged 14-25 years with a special educational need or disability (SEND)?

      Sheffield City Council wants your views on what post 16-provision and support should look like – for example in terms of employment, education, independent living, respite … Please come along and help shape the future of SEND provision for our young people in Sheffield. No need to book, just turn up!

      Please note: The meeting will be held at Sheffield Carers Centre, NOT at St Mary’s!

  • Coffee morning and essential oils workshop

    • Come for a cuppa and a chat, and enjoy some lovely essential oils at the same time! Anita, one of our parent volunteers, will tell you how essential oils can support you and your family with things like basic first aid, insomnia, stomach issues and feelings of overwhelm.
