  • Makaton training course level 1 & 2

    • An in-person course for parent carers in Sheffield! Dates: 3, 10 and 17 May 2023, all 9.45am-2.30pm

      Run by the Speech and Language Therapy service, this course will teach you the Makaton signs from Stages 1 to 4 of the core vocabulary. We will practice together in a relaxed way and discuss hints and tips for Makaton signing. You must sign up for all three sessions.

      The cost is £44 per person for the three sessions, which is purely to cover the cost of the Makaton manuals. Fees can be waived for parents on means-tested benefits – please contact us to discuss. Booking essential – click here to reserve your place.

  • Planning for the future – top tips for families

    • Do you worry about what will happen to your disabled child or young person when you are no longer able to care or be involved? These worries can build up and become overwhelming. No one knows what the future holds, but there are lots of practical steps that families can take to start to prepare for the future – you’re probably already doing some of them without realising!

      Led by experienced case workers from the Sharing Caring Project, this session will provide you with practical tips and ideas of things your family can be doing to prepare for the future of the person you support.

    • Join professional photographer Charlotte for a beginner’s photo walk around Sheffield Botanical Gardens. This will be a relaxing walk looking at the many points of interest in the gardens and a chance to explore composition, framing and  how to get the best from your camera or smartphone.

We will practice together in a relaxed way and discuss hints and tips for Makaton signing. The cost is £36 per person, which covers the three sessions, two manuals and a certificate. Fees can be waived for parents on means-tested benefits – please contact us to discuss.

  • Yoga taster session

    • Come along and give yoga a try! Yoga can help you improve your strength, balance and flexibility; it also has emotional benefits as it encourages you to relax, slow your breath, and focus on the present. The session is aimed at absolute beginners and will accommodate all levels of fitness and flexibility.       Run by the Speech and Language Therapy service, this online course will teach you the Makaton signs from Stage 2 of the Core Vocabulary. It is for people who have already attended a Level 1 course. We will practice together in a relaxed way and discuss hints and tips for Makaton signing. The cost is £22.95 per participant, which covers all three sessions, plus a manual and certificate. Family members who can share a manual and computer only need to pay for one participant. Fees can be waived for parents on means-tested benefits – please contact us to discuss. (You must have parental responsibility for the child to qualify for this.)
