Award for a “pocket cheerleader”

27th January 2025

  • Helen Bolt has been announced as the sixth recipient of our David Woodhouse Community Award. This annual award, established in memory of David Woodhouse, is funded through donations made in his name. David was the husband of Deborah Woodhouse, a former trustee and one of our founding members.

Helen’s recognition stems from her work with Sheffield Young Carers, a local charity dedicated to supporting children and young people who provide unpaid care for a relative. In her nomination, Helen was praised as “the person every cared-for parent needed and never had” and a “pocket cheerleader”.

Forum trustee Jayne Woodward said: “It was really heart warming to be able to to pay tribute to Helen who works so tirelessly for those she supports. Her work makes an enormous difference to their lives. She is obviously well loved and regarded, and is a real credit to the city. It was an honour to recognise the work she does in David’s memory.”

Deborah Woodhouse added: “I want to thank the Sheffield Parent Carer Forum for the sixth award, in the name of my husband David. After hearing and talking to Helen, I am delighted she’s won. She deserves this accolade for all she does with Sheffield Young Carers.”

As part of the award, Helen received a trophy, a £250 cheque, and vouchers for a spa experience and a meal. True to her selfless nature, she chose to share the prize with her entire team.
