Half-term activities for disabled youngsters

  • With the wet and windy set to continue into March, you might be wondering how to keep the kids entertained this half term. We’ve pulled together a list of free or low-cost activities aimed at children and young people with disabilities or additional needs.

    Monday 24 February

    Leisure Time at the Pavilion
    Hillsborough Park Pavilion, 10.30am – 12.30pm, cost £2
    For young people aged 14+ with disabilities / additional needs. Also running in term time

    Hub Stars
    Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre, 1.30pm – 3.00pm, cost £1.50
    For young people aged 14+ with disabilities / additional needs. Also running in term time

    Tuesday 25th February

    Boccia and Target Games
    Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre, 5.30pm – 7.00pm, cost £2
    For young people aged 14+ with disabilities / additional needs. Also running in term time

    Multi Sports Activity Club
    Stocksbridge Leisure Centre, 6.30pm – 8.00pm, FREE
    For young people aged 14+ with disabilities / additional needs. Also running in term time

    Fun Day at Shirecliffe Community Centre
    Shirecliffe Community Centre, 10.30am-3.30pm, FREE
    Organised by Shirecliffe Community Forum and Reach Out Childcare. The aim of the event is to gather views from parents and children with additional needs about a proposal to set up a new short breaks service at the Centre.     Bawtry Road Mavericks Boccia Club
    Bawtry Road Cricket Club, 1.00pm – 2.45pm, cost £1
    For young people with disabilities / additional needs

    Thursday 27 February

    Disability 1:1 Swimming Lessons
    Chapletown Baths, 9.00am – 12.00pm
    30 minute lessons, cost £5
    For young people age 8-16 with disabilities / additional needs. Must be booked and paid for in advance.

    Sheffield Smashers Boccia Club

    Ponds Forge, 5.45pm – 7.15pm, cost £2
    For young people aged 8+ with disabilities / additional needs. Free parking for Blue Badge holders. Sponsored by Irwin Mitchell. Also running in term time

    Friday 28 February

    Leisure Time
    Concord Sports Centre, 10.30am – 12.30pm, cost £3
    For young people aged 14+ with disabilities / additional needs. Also running in term time

    Disability 1:1 Swimming Lessons

    30 minute lessons, cost £5

    Ice Skating
    Ice Sheffield, 2.00pm – 4.00pm, FREE
    For young people aged 14+ with disabilities / additional needs. Also running in term time

    Saturday 1 March

    Sport and Activity Club
    All Saints Sports Centre
    10.00am – 12.00pm Basketball and Multi Sports, cost £3
    12.00pm – 1.00pm Trampolining, cost £3
    For young people with disabilities / additional needs. Also running in term time

    Family Woodland Camp
    Woodland site near Dore, 14-18 April, FREE (£5 deposit per day)
    Social Forestry are running a Woodland Camp for all members of the family, including those with learning difficulties and autism. Come for one or two days, or for the whole week. Funded by the Big Lottery Fund. Please click here to download a flyer.
