  • The government has launched a national voucher scheme for children who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals.

Eligible families can receive a £15 shopping voucher per child per week to spend at supermarkets while schools are closed due to coronavirus. Vouchers will be distributed by schools and can be sent electronically as a code, or physically as a gift card.

We understand that some schools in Sheffield have had problems getting hold of the vouchers due to issues with the supplier’s website. Parents have been telling us that some schools in Sheffield have not communicated this to parents. You can read more about these issues in this BBC News article.

Schools also have the option of continuing to provide meals for collection or delivery themselves.
